Camp can bring a lot of nerves - for both campers and their parents!

Here’s some information that might be able to answer some of the questions you have or haven’t thought about! Feel free to contact us if there’s any information you cannot find on here.

If you’re wondering if your child is ready for overnight camp, check out our guide for evaluating their (and your) readiness!

  • Getting ready for camp doesn’t need to be complicated. A little preparation helps campers feel confident, comfortable, and excited for their time with us.

    Before Camp Begins

    • Talk with your child about camp in a positive and encouraging way - let them know that you’re excited about camp, too!

    • Review the camp schedule and let them know what a typical day looks like

    • Help your child understand that staff are always available if they need help

    • Encourage independence with small tasks (getting dressed, brushing their teeth, organizing belongings)

    Emotional Readiness

It’s normal for campers to feel a mix of excitement and nerves.

    • Let your child know it’s okay to miss home

    • Reassure them that many campers feel the same way (even our Director still gets homesick, sometimes!)

    • Remind them that camp staff are trained to support campers emotionally, socially, and beyond

    • Make sure they know that you believe in them and their ability to make it through the week

    Expectations at Camp

    • Camp is a place to try new things, make friends, and have fun

    • Campers are encouraged to participate, but are always supported at their own pace

    • Respect for others, staff, and camp property is expected at all times

    Staying Comfortable

    • Make sure your child is familiar with what they’ve packed

    • Label personal items clearly

    • Send clothing suitable for outdoor activities and changing weather

    Our Commitment

Our staff work hard to create a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment where every camper can thrive. Preparing your child ahead of time helps set the stage for a positive and memorable camp experience.

If you have any questions or concerns before camp begins, we’re always happy to help.

    For more information, here are some links;

  • Drop off: We asked that you arrive at KLC between 4-5pm on drop off day as we do not register campers before that time. If drop off is expected to be at a later time, contact us to let us know in advance.

Pick up: During drop off, guardian will be asked who will be picking up the camper, if the person happens to change, you may contact us. Time of pick up will be at 1pm on the last day of camp. Before leaving camp grounds, the camper will have to be signed off with their senior cabin leader and administrative staff. Any medication will be returned to the guardian.

  • In the event that anyone on-site develops symptoms of any infectious disease, he or she will isolate on-site; campers will have staff supervision while parents/guardians are contacted and the next steps are arranged.

A qualified camp medic will be on-site and available 24 hrs throughout your camper's experience.

Any person who requires life-saving medication, such as a rescue inhaler or EpiPen, will be required to wear a KLC-supplied fanny pack to carry the medication on them at all times.

All medical information is kept confidential and only accessed by camp medical & admin staff. Information is only shared with other camp staff on a need-to-know basis.

    Medication

If your camper requires any medication while at camp, it must be brought in its original packaging or professionally packed by a pharmacy. Please provide a sufficient quantity for the full duration of the camp.

Medication must be labeled with the medication name and dosage, patient name, prescribing doctor and fulfilling pharmacy with Dr and pharmacy contact information. Handwritten labels or unlabeled medication cannot be accepted.

KLC carries a variety of over-the-counter medications if needed (with consent obtained in your child's medical form).

For photo example, you can find it in the 2025 Parents’ Guide.

  • We hope that finances will not be a barrier for anyone hoping to come to KLC. We offer financial assistance for families in need, according to their need. Since we can't subsidize every camper's fees, we ask that parents/guardians pay as much as their budget allows and then apply for financial assistance for the remainder. To apply for funding, please begin the registration process for your child and indicate your need through the form at the end of registration. No deposit required.

  • Campout

Campout is a classic KLC highlight and a staple of our programming. For every full week of camp, one night is dedicated to Campout.

In anticipation of campout, we ask that each camper bring a sleeping bag, warm clothes, and a flashlight. We'll provide the rest! Campout is a unique event at KLC that we haven't seen anywhere else. For many, this is the best part of their week and a reason many choose to return year after year. Our staff are equipped to make this a safe, fun, and memorable experience for your camper.

Campout will not be offered for Scamper Camp or Junior Adventure.

    Swimming Lessons

KLC launched swimming lessons in 2021 and it was a HUGE success.

Campers registered for swimming lessons can successfully complete swimming levels while at camp, taking their lessons each day in the lake for 1 hour (weather permitting). Note that swimming lessons takes place over the skills hour meaning that campers taking swimming lessons can only pick one other skill from the skills list instead of 2 skills.

If there’s any questions about swimming lessons, you may find it in the 2025 Parents’ Guide or you may contact us.
