As we enter 2021, we’re looking into ways to serve our God and community while providing an outstanding and safe experience for our campers.

Firstly, we want to express our profound gratitude for the immense support we received in 2020! Without your ongoing care, generosity, and prayers, KLC would not have been able to thrive in the ways we did. Our appreciation cannot be understated.

As we all know, certainty is rare in our world today. As such, it is impossible to fully anticipate what the COVID environment in Saskatchewan will be this summer. However, we are hopeful that we will be able to serve our campers and community in-person in some capacity in 2021.

The Saskatchewan Camping Association (SCA) is putting together a proposal for overnight camps, requesting that the Sask. Government will provide guidelines by March. Whatever these guidelines may be, we are dedicated to doing what we do best - serving campers. Some options that we are preparing for:

Best Case Scenario - Overnight Camps

We are hoping to deliver our usual immersive overnight experience, so that our campers can experience the full value of all that camp has to offer. Possibilities for overnight camps range from essentially a normal summer with increased sanitization, to only small cohorts being allowed to interact with one another.

Another Scenario - Day Camps

Last summer, despite overnight camps being cancelled, day camps were still able to run in Saskatchewan. We’re looking closely at these this year and have started to make rough contingency plans for day camp scenarios. These would most likely involve hosting day camps on site at KLC, but we’re also considering hosting them in Regina, or different churches around the province in the form of a tour. Stringent cleaning and safety protocols would be in place for whichever experience we would offer.

A Third Scenario - Virtual Camp

We agree - camp is better in person. However, if we aren’t able to provide a quality and safe KLC experience in-person, virtual camps are also a possibility. Options for this include camp-in-a-box (interactive camp activities delivered to your door, including a virtual component), follow-along camp videos, or some other sort of online KLC engagement. This option would be a last resort, but something we believe we can execute well nonetheless!

Other possibilities for the summer include our new-in-2020 Family Getaway experience and/or group rentals alongside or in-lieu of normal camp programming. This all depends on restrictions, government grant opportunities, and feedback from the KLC community. We’ll keep you updated whenever new information becomes available to us or when any decisions are made. We would love to hear from you with any ideas or concerns about KLC in 2021.

KLC Updates

Financial Snapshot

On November 22nd, at our first ever Stream-a-thon, we asked for your help to meet our audacious goal of raising $25,000. Together we blew past this milestone, and raised over $38,000 that night alone. We also shared that we were praying for an additional $12,000 (for a total of $50,000) by year’s end to recover lost revenue caused by COVID-19. We were overwhelmed by your generosity as we saw the Stream-a-thon and year-end giving total $50,908.39!

2020 Tax Receipts

If you made a donation to KLC in 2020 and requested that your tax receipt be emailed to you, your receipt was emailed to you this morning. If you have yet to receive it, please check your spam, junk mail, or promotions folder and consider adding KLC to your contact list to avoid this happening in the future.

If you requested a mailed receipt, we will be sending those out by this Friday, January 22nd.

Please note that when there are multiple people in a household we are sending a tax receipt to each member with an e-mail, and that as a household you have to decide how you want to split that tax receipt for income tax purposes between you.

Any questions about tax receipts can be directed to our treasurer, Collin Carbno at treasurer@katepwalakecamp.com

How can you help?

Join the board or a committee

We currently have five awesome board members who serve our ministry diligently. We would like to continue to recruit high-quality people to add to this group. We are also looking for committee members, which would be a less time-intensive way to help the camp make the myriad decisions that must be made. If you are interested in joining the board or a committee, or know someone who might be, please contact John Mohan at boardchair@katepwalakecamp.com.

Check out our store!

Last month, we launched our first-ever KLC online merchandise store. Get a camp t-shirt or hoodie delivered directly to your door, and support the ministry while doing so. Collect all four t-shirts for a free specialty item coming summer ‘21 (stay tuned!).

Giving

We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the support of our generous partners. Become a monthly or one-time donor to fuel our mission.

Prayer

This is our greatest tool for an impactful ministry. Please join us as we pray for provision and guidance as we continue to plan for summer 2021.

In grace,

Ethan Howitt
